Capuera Angola Pandiero workshop

Pandeiro artisanal making workshop with Capuera Angola- Music and Movement workshops. Hosted by Treinel Ah Ra/Aranha.

With special guests:

Mestre Jeronimo presenting his new edition of his Capuera book documenting Capuera in Australia.

This workshop supplies you with the material, tools and guidance to build your very own artisan pandeiro.

Materials included are:

-Individually custom built 12inch/30-31cm pandeiro frame. These frames are all recycled plywood drums custom cut and sanded down. The shaker holes are then drilled, then cut (This is already completed as this process takes time).

-Recycled tin shakers flattened into shape.

-Treated, cut and shaved Goat skin.

-Also a

1 1/2 hr Capuera Angola movement workshop.

1 1/2hr Capuera Angola Musical instruments arrangement and song workshop.

-A Open Capuera Roda to invite and celebrate the Australian Capuera community.

Capuera is a afro-brasillian art-form which gives it's context in its cultural expression.

Guided by Afrikan/indigenous instrument s like Pandeiro's, atubaque & berimbaus. The Roda is circle where the artforms is played, matched with movement s like Ginga and the breath of song.

- Limited Pandeiro workshop spaces available (due to materials).

- To attend this workshop it's required to have basic experience using hand tools, to work in groups and have communication skills. You will be constructing your own Pandeiro in groups with instructions.

The Pandeiro is the nationally recognised music instrument of Brasil.

It's existence is embedded in Brasil's rich folkloric, musics and arts cultures.

The pandeiro is used in a number of Brazilian music forms, such as samba, choro, coco, and capuera music. Introduced to the Portuguese through Moorish culture and later making its way to Brasil.

It's roots are traced to Ancient Afrikan - Kemet/Tawi civilisations more than 15 000 years old. The Pandeiro instrument family played a vital role in spiritual and cultural practices.

Used in Temples for, Hekau/Hesi ,(chanting/singing words of power). It brings the rhythm for the culture to communicate through song & dance.

Basic instrument construction knowledge is vital to all Capueristas in continuation of the Capuera culture. Capueristas of the past made there own instruments. This is vital to any Capuerista in the practice.

Come join be great to go home with something you can play new skills and made in a community. You will also have the skills to make and repair your Pandeiro.

Treinel Ah Ra/Aranha has been involved in the Australian capoeira community for over 22 years. He has trained with various Mestre's in Brasil, Australia and worldwide. He's focus is in the practice of Capuera Angola.
